TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Mineral Entrepreneurs Association (APEMINDO) executive director Ladjiman Damanik expressed his disappointment over low royalties paid by PT Freeport Indonesia.
“Since 1967, Freeport pays 1 percent royalty per product. Meanwhile, PT Aneka Tambang pays 3.7 percent, and so do I,” Ladjiman said in Jakarta on Saturday, December 05, 2015.
Ladjiman called on the government to urge Freeport Indonesia to increase its royalty payment since it could boost state’s income. Ladjiman said that the government could ask for the royalty increase when extending PT Freeport Indonesia’s contract.
“The royalty can be increased to 10 pecent,” Ladjiman said.
Under the Governement Regulation Number 77/2014, the earliest time to extend mineral and coal contracts is set at two years before the contract ends. The revision of the regulation would be included in the economic policy package initiated by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry.
The regulation amendment is aimed at extending the period of the metal mineral contracts by 10 years at maximum and 2 years at minimum. Meanwhile the contract for non-metal mineral can be extended to five years at maximum and two years at minimum.
