TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate the Lamong Bay Terminal project at Surabaya's Tanjung Perak Port on Friday, May 22. The terminal would be Indonesia's first green port.
The President will also inaugurate the completion of the West Surabaya Shipping Channel's revitalization project, which is a deepening and widening project.
Both projects are undertaken by state port company PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Pelindo III). The construction is done without the use of state funds.
Lamong Bay Terminal is Pelindo III's answer to the global discourse to lower carbon gas emission. Adhering to the concept of environmentally friendly, the terminal will run on gas fuel.
"The inauguration of Lamong Bay Terminal and the West Surabaya Shipping Channel by President Widodo is expected to encourage the Greater Metropolitan Surabaya Port to be more prepared in supporting the enhancement of the national logistics system," Pelindo III corporate secretary Yon Irawan said in Surabaya on Monday as Bisnis.com reported.
