Minister Sudirman Departs to Papua to Inspect Smelters Locations

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said and officials from the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal on Saturday departed to Papua to inspect the location for the construction of smelter in Papua.

Sudirman said that he wanted to ensure the preparation of the location of the construction of smelter of PT Freeport Indonesia.

"I was informed that the location is ready. That’s why we’re going to visit inspect the location,” Sudirman said to Tempo.

After landing at Mozes Kilangin airport in Timika on Saturday, 14 February 2015, Sudirman and the group are scheduled to visit the location of the smelters in Pomako and Amamapare as well as hydro power plants for the smelters in Urumuka.

In the meantime, to the minister’s delegation, Papua provincial government would explain the preparation the plan of mineral infrastructure projects and electricity project to support PT. Freeport’s smelter, among others hydro power plant in Urumuka, located near the seaport and the location of smelter.

During the working visit to Papua, Sudirman is joined by Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.
