TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resource Sudirman Said, said that he is disappointed by PT Freeport Indonesia's promise to build a smelter, which is yet to come to fruition.
"If there is no significant development of the smelter until January 25, 2015, [Freeport's] export license will be frozen," Sudirman said in a statement on Tuesday, January 20, 2015.
According to Sudirman, Freeport's smelter development progress is still far from expectation. "I'm disappointed because [the project] lacks seriousness," he said.
Sudirman said that he had received a report from the Director General of Mineral Resource R. Sukhyar stating that Freeport still has not decided a location to build its smelter factory.
