Golkar: Jokowi Should Postpone Fuel Price Hike

16 November 2014 16:12 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Chairman of Golkar Party Fadel Muhammad asked President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) not to immediately raise the price of subsidized fuel.

According to Fadel, raising the price of subsidized fuel would give a big impact to the condition of the people’s economy.

"So, the rise still needs time. The preparation must also be done well,” Fadel said in West Jakarta, Saturday, November 15, 2014.

Fadel, who is also Chairman of the Finance Commission of the House of Representatives (DPR), said that there are no budget yet to overcome social turbulences due to the fuel price increase. Therefore, Fadel urged Finance Ministry to prepare the budget first.

For the record, President Jokowi plans to increase the price of subsidized fuel this November but the exact date of the increase remains unknown.

The reason behind the increase is that in the past five years, infrastructure and health development has been neglected because the State Budget has been mostly used for fuel subsidy.
