TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Economic Minister Chairul Tanjung claimed that Freeport’s mineral exports would boost export volume and the August balance trade.
“It [Freeport’s mineral exports] would turn the trade balance to a surplus,” Chairul, or famously known as CT, said at his office on Tuesday, August 05, 2014.
According to CT, the potential of state revenue from coal and mineral sectors would reach US$5 million to US$6 million by the end of this year as the export value would be higher when mining companies completed their smelters.
Earlier, Finance Minister Chatib Basri projected a surplus trade balance in august, starting from the third quarter of this year. According to Chatib, the trade balance would improve following increasing domestic demands.
“Investment is always related to the natural resources,” Chatib said.
Currently, the government claimed that the renegotiation process of the mining contracts of work (KK) and permits (PKP2B) is moving toward the favorable direction. About 40 out of 107 mining companies had showed their commitment to continue their investment.
