TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Trade Minister Bayu Krisnamurthi said that the government and PT Freeport Indonesia had come into agreement in the renegotiation of mining contracts to allow Freeport exporting mineral concentrate.
“We are now waiting for recommendations from the director General of Mineral and Coal,” Bayu said at the Trade Ministry on Friday, July 25, 2014.
According to Bayu, Freeport had fulfilled the requirements, set by the government, to be a registered exporter (ET). However, the company had to obtain raw ore export permits (SPE) issued by the Trade Ministry, following a recommendation from the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry (ESDM).
On Monday, July 7, 2014, the government announced that Freeport had agreed six renegotiation points, offered by the government, and signed the memorandum of understanding on Friday, July 25, 2014.
The six points of renegotiations agreed were related to the size of mining areas, contract extensions, amounts of royalty to be paid, the obligation to process raw materials in Indonesia, divestment and the utilization of local goods and services.
