Mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia said that it is still trying to reach an agreement with the Finance Minister over the scheme of the building of smelters after the ministry rejected the company's proposal to build the smelters based on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.
"For the time being, we are still having a discussion [about the issue]. We cannot give any comments yet," said PT Freeport Indonesia President Corporate Communication Daisy Primayanti on Saturday, May 3, 2014.
According to her, PT Freeport would either send a letter to or meet with officials of the Finance Minister over the rejection because the company demands a clarification.
"But as of now, we do not know yet the follow up of the matter," said Daisy.
Daisy also did not say whether PT Freeport would insist on asking for incentives in the building of the smelters as, she said, things are still in the process.
"The issues are still being discussed. There’s nothing we can share yet," she said.
For the record, Deputy Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro said that the Finance Minister had rejected the PPP scheme proposed by PT Freeport in building smelters. He also said that the minister had rejected to provide incentives proposed by the company.
However, Bambang said that the government would provide fiscal incentives to mining companies that are going to build smelters in the form of tax allowance or other incentives based on the their mining productions.
