TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government will disburse Rp 5 trillion (around US$384.6 million) for the Trans-Papua infrastructure development project this year, Hediyanto W. Husaini, director general for Bina Marga at the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry said in Jakarta on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.

According to Hediyanto, about 900 kilometers out of the total 4,325 kilometers of road construction in Papua will be completed within the next three years.

"The project has been carried out since three years ago. But it won't be completed if we can only construct 100 kilometers [of roads] each year," Hediyanto added.

Hediyanto added that the government's target to complete 300 kilometers of roads in 2015 has been hampered because of the lack of fund. Currently, only 20 percent of the total Rp 5 trillion fund allocated for the project is available for use. Meanwhile, another Rp 12.5 trillion fund is needed to complete the upcoming 900 kilometer project.
