Komodo Island Attracts More Tourists

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Komodo Island National Park attracts more tourists as it was officially confirmed as the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Based on the data collected from the Forestry Ministry, the island attracted more tourists to come this year.
Last year, there were 50,000 visitors recorded visiting the island. "The target for this year is 60,000 visitors," said Zulkifli Hasan, the Minister of Forestry. Komodo Island was chosen as one of the new nature's wonders on November 2011, putting aside 28 candidates from 440 registered locations.
Last Thursday, the New 7 Wonders of Nature placard was received by the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province Governor, Frans Lebu, from the New 7 Wonders Foundation President, Bernard Weber, and the Extraordinary Ambassador of Komodo Winning Supporter, Jusuf Kalla.
Komodo Island becomes the last and final celebration location. Previously, celebrations was also held in each of the other six wonders locations, which are: Amazon valley, Latin America, Jeju Province of South Korea, Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, Argentina-Brazil Iqaju Fall, Philippine's Puerto Princesa National Park, and Table Mountain in South Africa.
