Japan Investors Meet Jokowi; Discuss Investment Constraints

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – In a one-hour meeting with President Joko Widodo yesterday, nine businessmen from Japan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry talked about investment constraints they face in Indonesia. "They also gave positive inputs to help increase the competitiveness of Indonesian products," said Industry Minister Saleh Husin.
Mr. Husin, who was also present at the meeting, said some of the problems encountered by the Japanese include time-wasting land acquisition process as well as high energy and logistics costs.
Japan's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Akio Mimura said the investors also spoke to Jokowi about education and the economic relationship between the two nations.
The Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chief Franky Sibarani had said that there are at least seven foreign companies planning to invest a total of US$20.4 billion in Indonesia's electricity sector. In addition to Japan, other investors are from China, South Korea, India, and Portugal.
