Limited Fiscal Space for Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Enny Sri Hartati, an economist from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance, said President Joko Widodo has little flexibility in spending the state budget to execute his programs. Jokowi, she said, has limited fiscal space remaining as the state current budget is already filled with programs specified in the 2014 State Budget Amendment.

"For priority programs, it's difficult. But the foundation can start to be mapped," she said yesterday. This foundation can be used as the format and design to contrive the 2015 Amended State Budget and Revenue Expenditure Draft.

According to Enny, for the rest this year Jokowi's ministers can start consolidating consolidation the programs of their respective ministries.

"Those that correspond with the new government's platform can be accelerated. Those that are not can be moved to the 2015 amended budget draft or saved," she said. (*)
